Well, so far neither QB has stuck out to win the starting job. If you had to pick one who would it be? My guess is Flowers will start this week and i only say that because he played 3 out of the 4 qtrs last week. But who knows, its a carousel so far.

I really can't answer this. Port did not look that bad once he started getting things going. Flowers was good on his feet but this is indoor football and you won't be able to get away with that all of the time.
I think that Port may have a better arm. They both need to realease the ball a lot sooner. The O-Line can only keep guys off of them for so long.
The Center does not help that much either with all of the bad snaps that I saw in the game against Arizona.

LOL, i hear ya. Its a tough one. I voted "I dont know". My gut feeling is i think Flowers may get the start. I only base that on the fact that he played 3 of the 4 qtrs last week against Arizona. Neither Port or Flowers stand out in my mind as starters, right now. That could change if they play up to their abilities.

If I was Reading, I'd put all 3 of them on my 20 man roster. The way Erie's defense is eating qb's, it might be a wise decision.

Maybe that would force the team to look for a veteran indoor QB if we wind up not having any left then. I see the team in a rebuilding phase this year though. As far as next season goes, I really don't see any vets coming back.

While Port & Flowers obviously played i noticed #12 Dan Kelly out on special teams. I was told they wanted to play him at QB for a bit but it just didnt work out that way....

John Port should start at quarterback! The receivers need to hold onto the ball. Port will adjust and release the ball sooner. That will come with time. Flowers does have good footwork. He is also a great athlete with outstanding hands. The Express should explore moving Flowers to receiver. Port looked good in his limited time playing. Maybe I missed something, but I thought the last game was exibition. Was Port Benched, or just replaced to avoid injury? These coaches seem to be set in their ways. I have never seen them allow Port or Flowers to audible. Maybe the coaches have to put some faith in their players. This is professional football. One other observation, was it me or did they make Port go down field 20-30 yards every play. Then they seemed to change and made Flowers throw the quick reads such as slants. Not too much consistancy.

How about Riverhawks former QB and AIFL player of the Year, Tony Zimmerman!?!?!

One other observation, was it me or did they make Port go down field 20-30 yards every play. Then they seemed to change and made Flowers throw the quick reads such as slants. Not too much consistancy. Its more than obvious that you are a BIG John Port supporter as you have stated this on various message boards. Believe it or not, we are too. We'd just like to see him play a bit better. He is holding on to the ball too long. In this game, as opposed to standard football, you gotta release the ball in 3-4 seconds. In watching him in 2 games this season we have seen him hold onto it longer than that, scramble and throw errant passes. I'd say its probably time for him to realize this now and change it up a bit, do you agree?
To give you my take on your other concerns: -"Port will adjust and release the ball sooner". I sure as heck hope so. Time is running out and in case you havent noticed Erie is 3-0 and we still dont have a qb who is making a case to be a starter. If any of our qb's play against Erie the way they been playing so far they could seriously get injured.
-"Was Port Benched, or just replaced to avoid injury?" Benched. They wanted to see Flowers in action and as i understand it, 3rd stringer Dan Kelly was scheduled to have some playing time but it never happened.
-"I have never seen them allow Port or Flowers to audible." Based on their performance so far, would you give them full run of the offense? Hopefully their play drastically improves and they can have a bit more control. Till then, i fully understand the coaches running things more so than normal.
-Yes it was an exhibition game. Unfortunatley, neither QB took advantage of the situation as a means to improve or stick out as the one who should be the starter. Both looked a bit lost & confused. 1/5th of the way thru the season and they look like they are still in preseason mode...
- "One other observation, was it me or did they make Port go down field 20-30 yards every play." Not sure where you saw JP throw deep this often? The ones i did see were way overthrown and no where near the receivers. The majority of what i saw was dink and dunk passing by both qb's and those appeared to be "called" plays....
Bottomline here is that there does need to be improvement all around. Its not all the qb's fault. The O-line needs to tighten up a bit and as you stated the receivers need to hold onto the ball as theres been way too many dropped passes. Another source of concern is on defense, mainly the db area. Getting burned too much on long passes for td's.
I dont blame coaching or any of the front office for the problems. On paper the talent is there and its up to the players to perform. Its up to the players to rally as a team and if there is anything i can do to help i'll sure as heck do what i can. We EXPRESSFANS love our team and only want the best for them.....

you guys know i don't normally get involved in your player debates, but i will answer a little bit...
as far as audibles...on any given play there are at least 4 different options, so audibling off of a play really isn't necessary, it doesn't mean it can't happen....so when a QB appears to have gone long and another goes short, those are the check-offs that the qb saw and chose. some of those choices are better than others, but i can assure you one qb wasn't told to throw long and another to throw short.
we knew going into the season, that our qb's were going to have to develope and learn the game...it does appear that short memories have prevailed and you all have forgotten that when Tommy came to us 3 years ago, he only had back-up arena experiance and we all know how that turned out....so i know it's tough but patience is important here.
as well , in every position, i speak with agents and other teams and other leagues and at all levels for quality players EVERYDAY as i am sure other coaches and gm's do as well...so don't think for a minute talent is not being sought out, but ya know on game day ya gotta go with what ya got and i believe in those guys on game day....as i am sure in other teams, we are no different when it comes to bringing in players to possibly fill or replace gaps...i have had at least 8 new faces in town this past week, 1 or 2 which you may see on the field this week.
we're a young team, but we are workin hard and they are givin what they got.
enjoy your player debates...it's your right as a fan and thats important to me that our FANS care enough to have an opinion..get out and support your team, no matter what city in the AIFA your in

Bernie, you are definitely the voice reason. Its a good thing you are in charge and not the fans. Fans tend to act on impulse and emotion where as you have evaluated and tested the players and are responding accordingly. Its a tough job and rather you than me. Reading will get better, your too good an organization not too. Just dont do it this week.....

All we can do as fans is give our opinions, both good and bad. Yea i agree we'll get better, hopefully sooner than later. No matter what happens this season though, we'll stick by our team. They have given us so much for the past 2 seasons and we all appreciate them for their hard work.

I would never downgrade a player. You'd never see me out on that field. I never played the game and don't know how or what the players are supposed to be doing out there.
I just appreciate the team and the sport and love coming out to support them win or lose. That's all the players can really ask of us.
