Of course, there are to busy spending money on the convention center that will go to waste in 10 years. Which, to, with Erie's history of football teams, they could be nervous about spending the money.

When Canton bought their turf, was it the team or a joint investment with the Canton Civic Center? You know anything about it Myth?

I remember seeing the construction this last summer when I went down to dobbins landing. Have they even made progress with it?

The city of Canton owns the Civic Center, and the city acquired a grant for I think about 2/3 of the cost of the field, the rest was supposed to be up to the Legends. I think that's what I remember reading way back then...

I think that's what I remember reading way back then... I thought it was some sort of public development loan. There was a bit of controversy at the time. I'll see if I can dig up that article.

The new convention center a 95 million dollar project... 9 million OVER budget! $80,000 is a drop in the bucket compared to what they spent here. The damn building is shaped like a boat! Ay Caramba!

The city of Canton owns the Civic Center, and the city acquired a grant for I think about 2/3 of the cost of the field, the rest was supposed to be up to the Legends. I think that's what I remember reading way back then... Partial from the newspaper story February 16, 2006 CANTON - Football and music fans got a boost Wednesday from the Community Improvement Corp. The CIC approved a $20,000 loan to help the Canton Legends arena football team buy new turf for the Memorial Civic Center. It also said “yes” to a $50,000 loan for a Cleveland businessman who is turning the old Quonset Hut record store into a new shop called The Exchange. The loan to Joe and Kristine Hoffman, who own the Legends football team, came with an endorsement from Mayor Janet Weir Creighton. She believes the Hoffmans are bringing a new kind of commitment to the team and the city. The Hoffmans need $62,500 to buy the new turf. It will replace turf that is 20 years old and was purchased for the Invaders indoor soccer team. The Legends used the old turf last season. The city’s loan will cover about one-third of the turf’s cost. The city could end up owning the turf if the league folds, if the team is sold or if the Hoffmans fold the team. City officials verified that the Hoffmans are able to provide the remaining $42,500 they need to pay for the turf.

how much would a new turf cost..? Last year's turf for the Legends cost $62,500. Consider price increases ... I'm guessing $70k

The Freeze need to be in town for a few more years before they spend that kind of dough. I don't think that much money can be recouped from one season alone. You mentioned the Convention Center, but the ECCA owns the Convention Center, the Uht, the Tullio, and the Warner, which is currently undergoing renovations of it's own. They bought the bank next door and are completely renovating it. Not to mention the project going on at the Uht. Entertainment in Erie is on the decline. I don't see them pouring a bunch of money in to the Freeze. Hey, Presque Isle Downs is new in town. Maybe hit them up for a sponsorship. They could pay for the turf. They can have their logo right on the turf. I'm sure they will make the 70k back within the first 5 minutes they open.
