You may have noticed the Canton Legends are playing in the AIFA, rather than the AIFL. It is pretty much the same league with a few more teams divided into a North and a South division.
There is one important difference. AIFL founder Andrew Haines is not associated with the new league. Owners voted to sever ties with the AIFL and join the AIFA.
"The league structure is pretty much the same," Legends owner Joe Hoffman said. "There are some differences. Like we have a conference call or owners' meeting every month now. That didn't happen before."
There still are some problems, too. The AIFA is a new league. Canton has to travel to Florida to play a regular-season game in March.
"That trip alone almost doubles the travel budget we had a year ago," Hoffman said.
After that, Canton plays at Reading, Erie, Pittsburgh and Danville. The Legends, who next play at home Feb. 23, do not have home games on consecutive weekends.
