FANZ-TV signs Mid-Atlantic Hockey League (MAHL) to one-year broadcast contract

BURBANK, CA, April 1 – FANZ-TV Network, a 24-7 Sports Television Network, announced today that it has signed the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League (MAHL) to a one-year broadcast deal for the 2008-09 season that includes a future two-year option. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The announcement was made today at a press conference in Burbank, CA by Rod Myers, President of FANZ-TV.

President/CEO Rod Myers stated, "We are thrilled to have signed the MAHL as our first “Single A” professional hockey league to a national network broadcast contract. We continue to move forward to our goal of a recognized credible sports television network. We understand the MAHL is rebuilding their league and we are elated that they have chosen to work with FANZ-TV as their television partner. We will do everything we can to assist them in building into a league that grooms great talent that is able to move to the next level and generates interest in the league. We feel that this partnership will be mutually beneficial for us both.”

FANZ-TV will air a single Game of the Week and also carry the entire post-season and the 2008-09 MAHL Championship games live. A weekly “Inside the MAHL” show will be produced as a support for the league.


League President Andrew Haines stated, "We are excited to be the first single "A" professional hockey league to sign a national TV contract." This is another part of our rebuilding the MAHL brand. Rod Myers and the FANZ-TV staff have been great to deal with and we look forward to building a great relationship between both the MAHL and FANZ-TV Network."

Granted that the Jamestown Vikings have moved to Ohio since they couldn't get solid sponsors in Jamestown.... Or because of the whole deal with the players destroying a historical landmark in J-town. I think after that event, the fanbase might be a tad low.

I dont see where it says anything about the league paying him. As someone who has experience in the world of broadcasting, I know that there are a number of ways that deals can be worked. It seems to me that posts in this thread are based on a combination of bitterness and assumption; neither of which are healthy (or accurate, usually).

Wonder if the MAHL will actually HAVE a Championship game this year or if they'll just fold up and quit halfway through the season again because Half the league wasn't getting paid....

What really could be gained by working out an advertisement tradeoff or other "non paid" deal with a league that couldnt complete its 1st season, did'nt have any post season play/championship game and alienated its fans by ending the season early and closing the message board? If anything, this post isnt derived from bitterness but rather by the way things are. If all your experience in broadcasting has led you to believe that this is a good situation than God help ya....

Please do not insult me by telling me that this is not derived from bitterness and resentment. It is clear from even the earliest post in the thread. Why else would a release of this nature be brought up in such a derogatory manner to begin with?

It seems clear that there was some kind of past dealing with this guy that caused some kind of hard feelings, seemingly that he dropped you or something. Whatever the reason, it is a complete lack of professionalism for someone who is quasi-affiliated with the league (such as forum administrator) to engage in such behavior. It's one thing for fans to throw around accusations, but it is another for someone holding a position of authority to do so.

Do I know the first thing about the MAHL? Absolutely not. I've never heard of them. Do I care that their first season ended badly? Absolutely not. They have apparently regrouped, and there's nothing wrong with that. Do I believe that this is a "good situation" (as you say)? I actually say that anyone who doesn't view it as a good situation (based on what I know from the release) is a fool who underestimates the power of television.

I find it rather odd that you are defending a league you claim you know absolutely nothing about. It's almost like you have an Invested interest with the MAHL or FanzTV. It scares me that you do not see the league ending it's season early as a red flag. Listen Julius, Haines is probably one of thee worst business men I have ever seen. Anything this man has touched has turned in to dog excrement. Haines had a $430,000+ lawsuit on his hands and the moron never defended himself in court, so by default the judge allowed for the lawsuit.

We aren't bitter sir, we just know how this guy operates.

What you call bitterness and assumption, I like to call experience and familiarity. The people here KNOW the subject matter they speak of.

I personally met Rod. I had no problem with him for awhile during and after the All Star and Championship Game. But, a little while after that is when he turned bi-polar. I'll gladly share a 7 1/2 minute message left on my phone from him if you want.

Best of luck to him with the hockey. That league would be great if someone else stepped up and bought that league.
