Since you guys are such excellent fans, know almost everything and are the most powerful people in cyberspace, I just want to know something:
It's Monday morning and there are no recaps from the weekend's games on the league web site and only one of two teams filed a stat report. How do you think that reflects on you and the league you love so much?

I have typed an article that is pending approval from the powers that be. I am new to the realm of sports writing but I hope everyone enjoys the article and goes easy on me. I of course will appreciate any criticism, as it will help me to be a better sports writer in the future. Hopefully it will be approved in the next few hours, and we can all either enjoy it, or ridicule me mercilessly.

How do you think that reflects on you and the league you love so much? I can only give a reason for my teams site. The person that updates that site didn't have the oportunity to put it there until today. I have no reason or excuse for the leagues site. That would be the PR person and/or the person that updates that sites query.

Thanx, turfburn. I always appreciate an honest answer.
This is a chance to plug my stat guy in Frisco ... It was his first game inputing on the computer and we only needed to make 2 changes in the audit. Once again, I am fortunate.

I've been fortunate to have not been busted up too much in my limited experience as a sports writer. I do have some advice from one fan-turned-writer to another.......Two words, GET PAID!

I appreciate the advice. Until I become more proficient at this craft, I think I will stick to giving it away for free. Hell, if anything, it will maybe get some attention fom local papers. But those are delusions of grandeur right now.

You never know ....The third game story I ever wrote made it into the Daytona Beach News Journal, and I got paid..... And the trend continues. I've got three or four papers under my belt now, and the list will be growing soon. It could happen to you.
Hang in there dude.

Thats absolutely right, you never know who will want your story. My first year of free-lancing I did a story on Eric Lindros and did a comparison with Gretzky and Lemieux. It was published in a small town paper in SW PA. A week later I got a call from the Toronto Sun Times wanting to re-print the article. The mere fact that Canadians liked my article about hockey was pretty cool but then they paid me $200 which was 8 times what I got as a stringer.
Keep your head up and your pencil sharp and good on ya brother.

Oh dangit, I almost forgot......Gotta give props to DaytonaDan!
As I stated before, my writing "career" started with me running the messageboard and writing game stories for the WIFL league and teams sites.
Since neither the league nor it's teams could pay me for this, the league PR director hooked me up with the contact info to sell my first story, and my God given gift (as mentioned in the personal text on my profile) allowed me to go from there.
Maybe somebody in or around this league could do the same for you Dave. Then even if the AIFA doesn't pan out (as was the case with the WIFL) you can still get paid to do something fun!
