AIFA Releases 2008 League Schedule With Western Division Schedule To Come
BALTIMORE, Maryland (November 7,2008) – The American Indoor Football Association announced its schedule today for the upcoming 2008 season. The portion of the schedule related to the league's new Western Division will be announced when final franchise agreements are in place.
The season will open on Friday, March 7th, with the Carolina Speed invading Pittsburgh to take on the Riverrats. The following night, the Reading Express will host the Baltimore Mariners at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. This will be the first nationally-televised game as part of a multi-year package with Simply Me TV.
For the 2008 season, the AIFA will be divided into Eastern and Western conferences. Each conference will be composed of two divisions, with the East and North being in the Eastern Conference and the South and West being in the Western Conference.
The schedule will also include a special exhibition matchup between the Wyoming Calvary and the Reading Express on Saturday, March 22nd. The game will be played in Reading, and the results will not count in the league standings.
“We're really excited about this schedule,” said AIFA co-founder John Morris. “The talent we have in this league is absolutely incredible. There will not be an easy game on the schedule.”

I would say none will be changed, they will probably play a shorter schedule or play unknown teams from defunct leagues, who knows.

I would say none will be changed, they will probably play a shorter schedule or play unknown teams from defunct leagues, who knows. Or it could be that there are schedule conflicts with arenas. Remember, these western teams are new and joining the league later in a whole new division. If i remember correctly, Reading started last year with 2-3 bye weeks. But later in the season they played 3 games in 10 days, or something like that.

the west might as well consider themselves another league. So far away from all the main action. That's going to be interesting to see if 4 teams can survive.

I agree, if they make it through this season, and they add four teams next season, then it will be successfull. Let's hope they make it through this year. I hope they do because I think having geographical range makes for a better league

with all that aside I don't agree or understand why you would have an exhibition game 2 weeks after the supposed season has started.
the game should just count if the trip is made.
sounds like a waste of time and money!
doesn't make sense a very bad business decision if you ask me. Nothing counts so no reason to be there

Nothing counts so no reason to be there This game wasnt forced on them by the league. It was something both teams agreed upon between themselves. Neither wanted to be off during a bye week. They opted to play & are helping each other out with travel expenses. Its also, IMO, good marketing for the league to have these teams play in front of each others fans since they wont be playing each other on a frequent basis.....

yeah ok still a bad move if not by the league then by both teams. an exhibition after the season has started is unheard of and rediculous! exhibitions are ok before the season but this just sounds like injuries that could have been avoided. both teams will feel the effects of not having a bye week later in the season especiailly if either one of them make the playoffs or championship! just glad columbus didn't go this route

I know we EXPRESSFANS are looking forward to having Wyoming at The Railyard. You also have to realize that these bye weeks are filled up too because at some point some teams have 2 away games then a bye week. 3-4 weeks to be out of the home town fans minds is way too long. They aint losing money either. There will be 3,500-4,000+ strong cheering at the Sovereign Center and from what i gather, Wyoming does well in attendance too. Kudos to both teams for thinking ahead in keeping their fans interested and for making the most in generating much needed money. Maybe if more teams thought like this there would be less teams having financial problems....

yeah well thats your opinion i am personally happy with my team not playing a useless game while the season is underway.
and if teams are banking on useless games being their savior in keeping them around town thats sad, really!
Pre-season means nothing in any sport its the real game that draws a crowd. its the games that determine the standings that keep people interested. let me know how many fans besides owners and a few players family members that make that game from wyoming. i'd bet less than 50
goodluck gene but all i see is good players sustaining injuries that they will have to nurse all year with no good break in play until season end.

In the exhibition game the Express had with the Blackbirds last season just as many fans came out as any other game. Just curious, What stats are you basing this one? The real fans will be there no matter what. Enjoy the bye weeks.
Looking at Columbus's schedule the have a 4 weeks stretch of no home games. 5/17 @ Missy, 5/23 @ Florida, Next week a BYE. Friday June 6th they host Florence. Might not of hurt to have an exhibition game there on the bye week. Could have a promotion such as fan appreciation night and give discounts on tickets. It will keep the fans involved with the team as most fans dont really follow their teams when they are on the road. Keeping the product constatly in front of its customers is just good business practice.

you are totally missing the point. it goes well beyond the fan participation but the caliber of play you can recieve from players by resting them does leaps and bounds for competative play.
-i have nothing to base this on because i've never heard of it. don't get me wrong i totally agree with exhibition games(before the season) but can't see it attracting the same crowd with nothing a stake.
-with todays technology it doesn't matter where my team is playing i can stay connected with whats going on with the team and the rest of the league for that matter.
as i said goodluck just glad were not doing this after the season has started
