This is a step in the right direction.
AIFA Names Bill Hazen to Public Relations Post
Baltimore, Maryland (September 4, 2007) – The American Indoor Football Association has named Bill Hazen to perform public relations duties for the league. Hazen will also create and produce an Internet radio program, featuring players, coaches and administrators from the AIFA and its member teams.
“The AIFA is growing rapidly,” said Hazen regarding his new assignment. “I can't imagine a more exciting time to join this team!”
John Morris AIFA CEO stated: “I am excited to have Bill on board. His resume is very impressive, and he comes to us highly recommended by leaders in the sports industry. The AIFA received many inquiries for this position and the process was long, but I am pleased we waited until the right individual was found to help take us to the next level.”
For the past two seasons Hazen has served in a dual capacity of PR and broadcasting for the Gary Steelheads of the CBA and the USBL. During his tenure, the Steelheads were consistently among the most highly publicized teams in minor league professional sports.
Last year he began developing and producing Internet radio programs (sometimes referred to as “Podcasts”) for both the Gary Steelheads and the Chicago Shamrox of the National Lacrosse League. Each program, posted at OurSports Central Radio, developed a significant following.
Hazen is no stranger to football. He served as one of the voices of Southwest Conference football over Mutual Southwest, then the largest regional radio network in the nation. Hazen was at the microphone during the exploits of SMU's Pony Express backfield (Eric Dickerson and Craig James). Later, he called the action of NFL Thursday Night Football for ESPN International. One of his more challenging assignments was describing the National High School Football Game of the Week for The Football Network. He continues to call prep football in Northwest Indiana for the Region Sports Network.
Hazen's broadcast portfolio includes play-by-play for three NBA teams (Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls, and Indiana Pacers). He was at the microphone for Michael Jordan's incredible rookie season, including his first professional game. He called the 1995-1996 NBA Finals and the 1995 World Series for ESPN International. Hazen also served on the sports staffs of WIND in Chicago, KMOX in St. Louis, WFAA in Dallas, KTRH in Houston and WISN in Milwaukee. He was graduated from Butler University in 1972.
The AIFA was formed on October 1st, 2006. The league played its inaugural season in 2007, with the Lakeland Thunderbolts being crowned as the league's first champion. During its recent meetings in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, the AIFA announced a significant expansion to its roster of teams. The league also signed its first national television contract.
