I do not feel sorry for the guy. You are simply not allowed to shoot at trespassers, even if signs are posted clearly. This is not a home invasion issue. The kids were not entering the house. His claims that he fired he gun just to scare them holds no water either. He fired the gun directly at their car. That is attempted murder. You do not pull the trigger of a gun while it is pointed at another person unless the intent is to kill.
Even discharging a round into the air can result in death. There have been several cases where rounds fired off into the air as "warning shots" have found an unsuspecting target.
I have no sympathy for the guy. He plead guilty to the charges. He knew what the terms of the plea were. He knew how long he would be going away for this.
The girls in this article are crazy for going to an occupied house to do a "ghost hunt". They know the history of the residents that live there. They had to of heard the stories and seen the people that live there. I am sure hind-sight is 20/20 though. Is it tragic that a girl is now partially paralyzed? You bet. Could this have been avoided though? 100 percent yes!

Oh I bet the Gun Control Activists are loving this.... He was punished accordingly. You cannot shoot just because you feel threatned. Self defense doesn't work that way.
Now if they had machetes and said they were going to chop your head off, then that's a different story.
Blame can go all around IMO. The girls shouldn't have been there period. I dunno about you, but I wouldn't take kindly to people coming on to my property. They should have known better. Clearly this family has some mental issues that i'd rather not divulge in to. Regardless if he has mental issues or not, he ruined a life of another person, just because of his severe paranoia of people.

Yes, there was fault all around, but the fact remains, it is not the type of fault that requires someone getting shot.
