Lehigh Valley Claims Fourth And Final Playoff Spot in United Conference
Bethlehem, PA
: When the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (6-8) closed out their regular a week ago with a victory in Chicago, they knew they needed some help to reach the IFL playoffs. The team received that help this past Saturday as the Omaha Beef fell to the Sioux Falls Storm on Saturday giving the Steelhawks their first playoff berth in their short two year history. The team will have a tough task in the opening round as they travel to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to face the undefeated Storm on Saturday evening at 8:05 EST.
The Storm finished off their perfect regular season by beating the Beef 59-20 at home. They are lead by perennial MVP Quarterback Chris Dixon, who last game set an IFL record for passing yards in a season, finishing with 3, 321. He has a trip of excellent receivers in his arsenal in Carl Sims, Clinton Solomon, and James Terry. Defensively, the Storm feature a stout line, lead by veteran Rachman Crable who has 5.5 sacks in 2012.. The Steelhawks know that heading into Sioux Falls is no easy task, and will have to play at their best to unseat the league’s defending champions.
One benefit to the Steelhawks was having a bye week in the league’s final regular season weekend. This has allowed the team extra time to rest, get healthy, and finalize their playoff roster. Coach Thompson thinks his team is up for the task. “Sioux Falls went undefeated for a reason,” he said. “They are one of the most talented teams in indoor football history, and we’ll have to be at our best in all three phases of the game to unseat them. Our boys are pumped up, and ready to get to work. We are excited for this franchises first playoff game.”
The team will be announcing a playoff viewing party in the coming days so all Steelhawks fans can watch the game live. Fans are reminded that 2013 season ticket deposits are being accepted now to reserve your seats for next year. You can reserve your seats by calling the Steelhawks front office at 610-282-3100.
