Over 3,800 fans watched Tommy Jones throw five touchdown passes, four of them to game MVP Jeff Austin as the Saginaw Sting defeated the Dayton Silverbacks 35-7 to claim the third championship for the organization and second in the CIFL.
The game started off great for the Silverbacks. In the first quarter the Silverbacks took the opening drive and moved down field and scored first when Evan Sawyer found Tyler Waller open in the end zone, the extra point was no good and the Silverbacks had a 6-0 lead with 9:22 left in the first.
The Sting would answer right back, on their opening drive, when Tommy Jones found Jeff Austin in the end zone, the extra point was no good and the game was tied at 6.
In the second Tommy Jones found Jeff Austin wide open once again, this time the Sting went for two. Jones found Andrew Beaver wide open and Saginaw had a 14-6 lead. With time running out in the first half Tommy Jones saw Keath Bartynski in the end zone, Daniel Evans made the extra point and it was 21-6 at the half.
On the kick off to start the second half C.J. Tarver was stopped in the end zone and Dayton was awarded 1 point. Saginaw still retained the ball at the 5 and drove down field. Tommy Jones threw his third touchdown pass to Jeff Austin, the extra point was good and it was 28-7 Saginaw with just over 5 minutes left in the third quarter.
The Sting put the game away with 7:25 left, in the fourth quarter when Tommy Jones completed his fourth touchdown pass to Jeff Austin and a Daniel Evans extra point was good to complete the scoring at 35-7.
