McALLEN, Texas---- The Rio Grande Valley Magic saw their three game winning streak come to an end by the West Texas Roughnecks by a score of 72-62 on Monday evening at the State Farm Arena. Billy Garza threw for 325 yards and seven touchdown passes, while Melvin Stephenson had 270 all purpose yards but it was not enough at the end.
After the loss, the Lone Star Football League announced that franchise in Houston would stop operations and that games played against Houston would not could. The Magic have not played Houston during the regular season, but now have to face a revised schedule that will include familiar opponents starting with the West Texas Roughnecks scheduled for Saturday, June 16th with the kickoff set for 7:05 p.m. at the State Farm Arena.
The rest of the schedule is as follows:
Saturday June 23rd @ Laredo Venue: Laredo Energy Arena Time: 7:05 pm
Saturday June 30th vs. Laredo Venue: State Farm Arena Time: 7:05 pm
Saturday July 7th @ Abilene Venue: Taylor County Expo Center Time: 7:05 pm
Head Coach Schuyler “Skyler” Anderson said, “Our last meeting versus the Roughnecks we just didn't finish the job. West Texas was able to steal a game from us that should have never been close. That goes to show that you can't just show up and expect a win, but if you play at a high level for 4 quarters you can expect good results.”
Coach Anderson commented on the upcoming home game against West Texas, “With the schedule changes to our remaining four games our guys were fortunate to have a week off before having to face West Texas again. I think our guys are a lot more focused this time around. Some additions have been made to our team should help us in a big way. Now that we are in the second part of our season I felt like we needed to not only add talent but some veteran leadership primarily in the secondary. Some additions have been made to our roster which should help up in a big way."
Magic home and away games can be heard on 840 AM Fox Sports Radio with a 15-minute pre-game show hosted by play-by-play voice Ric Miller.
The Magic will have their next home game on Saturday, June 16, 2012, as they will host the West Texas Roughnecks at the State Farm Arena with the kickoff at 7:05 p.m. All tickets will be $10.00 each for any seat anywhere in the arena. It will be a special jersey night the Magic will commemorate the “Fallen Heroes Foundation.” The jerseys will be auctioned off immediately after the game ends. Season, individual tickets, and renewals are available by calling (956) 905-5401.
