December 22, 2011 - Lone Star Football League (LSFL) Amarillo Venom
Amarillo, TX 12/22/11: The Amarillo Venom welcomes three fresh faces to the 2012 Amarillo Venom team; Ken Johnson Jr., Greg Fortner, and Curtis Lewis.
Ken Johnson Jr. is from Montgomery, AL and played football for Concordia College in Selma, AL. He played quarterback for three years where he earned SEAC MVP, 1st team all conference, and 08 SEAC Player of the year. His career passing yards included 6,135 yards with 45 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. His career rushing yards include 1,050 yards and 12 touchdowns. Johnson who previously joined the Amarillo Venom in 2010, left early in the season to go home and help his family after a tragic tornado hit his hometown. Johnson is excited to be back and is looking forward to being QB under Head Coach Julian Reese.
Greg Fortner is from Canyon, TX and played for Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, OK for four years. He leads the All-time leading receptions for a tight end at OPSU. Fortner also played for the East Kentucky Drillers of the UIFL league in the 2011 season. Fortner is 6'2", 255 lbs. and plays tight end. Fortner is the first of many possible recruits out of OPSU under Defensive Coordinator Dannie Snyder.
Another new face to the team is Curtis Lewis from Blue Island, FL. He is 6'3", 270 lbs. and plays corner and offensive guard.
Amarillo Venom tryouts are being held January 7th, 2012 at the Amarillo Civic Center North Exhibit Hall. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and pre-registration is online at www.govenom.com.
