With the season being a couple months away, we here at the Erie Explosion have started to sign players for the upcoming season. We will have more signings to share with you as we get closer to the season. We also would like to congratulate all of our former players who have signed with the AFL and wish them the best of luck.
The Erie Explosion are proud to announce that veteran receiver Tirone Morris has re-signed with the club for the 2012 season. Morris (6', 195) a product of Alabama A&M, has developed a reputation as one of the top receivers in professional indoor. A fan favorite, Morris was major weapon in an Erie offense that averaged over 70 points per game and finished as the top ranked offense in the league in 2012. Acquired via trade with the Columbus Lions in week 2 of the 2011 regular season it did not take look for Morris to make an impact on the Explosion franchise. Morris finished with 51 receptions for 734 yards and 22 receiving touchdowns. Morris also added 2 touchdown passes, one rushing touchdown, and 2 kickoff returns for touchdowns. He finished second on the team in scoring with 150 total points scored.
During the 2010 SIFL season with the Columbus Lions, Morris accumulated 85 receptions for 996 yards and 13 touchdowns as the Lions captured the 2010 SIFL Championship. His reception and yardage totals led the entire Southern Indoor Football League, and he was named to the First Team All-SIFL team for his accomplishments. Morris is the current record holder for most receptions in an SIFL game with 16 receptions.
“ I am extremely happy that we were able to bring one of the top receivers in all of indoor football back to Erie for 2012. Tirone Morris is an exceptionally talented receiver and a tremendous person both on and off the field. I know our fans in Erie will be very happy to see him back in uniform for 2012. I am looking forward to working with him again and I look for him to have another huge season with us next year, “ commented Erie Explosion Coach Shawn Liotta.
