RALEIGH, NC -- The Steeler nation and WPXI-TV are offering condolences to the family of Bill Cowher after learning that Bill's wife, Kaye, died from skin cancer on Friday.
Steelers fans knew her as the wife of long-time Steelers coach Cowher, but Kaye was an accomplished athlete in her own right.
She was a basketball star in her native North Carolina.
Before she was married, Kaye Young played basketball at North Carolina State, and played three seasons in the Women's Professional Basketball League.
She met Bill Cowher at North Carolina State in 1976, while both were students there.
In addition to Bill, Kaye leaves behind three daughters, Meagan, Lauren, and Lindsay.
The Cowhers returned to North Carolina after Bill's retirement and resided near Raleigh. She was from Bunn, N.C.
