Nemeth takes Offensive Honor, Watson Captures Top Defensive Nod
BALTIMORE, MD (March 17, 2010) – Baltimore Mariners quarterback E.J. Nemeth was named the Vidswap.com American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) Offensive Player of the Week and defensive back Armar Watson took Vidswap.com AIFA Defensive Player of the Week honors. With their awards, the Mariners have garnered three player of the week nods in just two games; lineman Melik Brown was picked as the league’s top defender in week 1.
Nemeth led the Mariners to a franchise record 51 points in the first half of a 68-23 victory over the New Jersey Revolution. The Baltimore QB racked up five touchdown passes on 12 for 20 passing and 165 yards. Nemeth now leads the AIFA with nine touchdowns and the Mariners are the league’s number one scoring offense, averaging 66 points a game.
Watson was named the Defensive Player of the Week for his five interception performance against the Revolution. With the five INT mark, Watson tied the AIFA record for interceptions in a game held by fellow Mariner Andre Letren. Watson also returned one of his picks for a 45-yard touchdown. Watson now has 22 interceptions in 16 regular season games for the Mariners. He also added 3.5 tackles in the win over the Revolution, which ran Baltimore’s record to 2-0.
The Mariners now face the Fayetteville Guard on Sunday, March 21st at 4:00 PM at 1st Mariner Arena. Baltimore will look to run their season record to 3-0 against the Guard who will be making their 2010 season debut after earning a playoff spot in 2009 with an 8-6 record.
