Kheon Hendricks Three-Year Starter for Blue Hens, Including Two with Flacco
BALTIMORE, MD (November 10, 2009) – Offensive lineman Kheon Hendricks, who protected Quarterback Joe Flacco for two seasons at the University of Delaware and who was a three-sport star at Pikesville, Maryland’s Woodlawn High School, has signed a contract with the Baltimore Mariners of the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA).
“Kheon had a very successful career at Delaware where he was Joe Flacco's center and has been evaluated by the NFL. He brings a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge to our offensive line. I look forward to Kheon continuing his success at the professional level,” said Mariners Head Coach Chris Simpson.
At Woodlawn Hendricks excelled at football, track, and lacrosse. A three year letter-winner in football, the offensive and defensive lineman helped lead the Warriors to a 32-9 record, three county and regional titles, and the state semi-finals in 2002 and 2003. He twice was named All-County as an offensive lineman. He also earned three letters on Woodlawn’s track team throwing shot put and discus. As a junior and senior he won county championships in the shot put and placed third in the state. During his senior season the Warriors placed third in the state championships. He also lettered in lacrosse in his freshman and sophomore years.
After sitting out his freshman season in 2004 for the Delaware Blue Hens, the 6’1”, 295 pound Hendricks saw action in nine games as a redshirt freshman in 2005. In 2006 he became the starting left guard and played in 11 games for a Joe Flacco-led Blue Hens team that ranked ninth in NCAA Division I-AA in passing. In 2007 Hendricks anchored the Blue Hens line and moved to the center position to lead an offense that led the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in scoring, passing, and total offense and ranked sixth in the NCAA in total offense with 460.6 yards per game. Led by All-American Flacco the Blue Hens finished 11-4 and advanced to the national title game. For his efforts Hendricks earned honorable mention All-American honors by The Sports Network and was named first team All-CAA. Prior to his senior season in 2008 the Baltimore native garnered first team pre-season All-American honors by Phil Steele’s College Football Preview Magazine and second team pre-season All-Americans laurels by Lindy’s College Football Preview and Consensus Draft Services. Following the season, after starting all 12 games for the Blue Hens at center, he was named honorable mention on the College Sporting News Fabulous Fifty Division I FCS All-American and the Sports Network FCS Football All-America teams. Following his collegiate career he has had two private workouts with the Baltimore Ravens.
"Well as a former Blue Hen you have to love the way Baltimore is represented with Joe Flacco and now Kheon for us. Flacco was well protected at Delaware and if he trusts him, we sure do as well," noted Mariners General Manager Greg Justice.
