Does anybody understand why people are camping out for 3 days and paying $600+ for the new PS3? Is it really worth the graphics and other bells & whistles? Seems to me if these people waited for a few months the price would drop and they could get it a bit cheaper. I just dont understand the "need" to have one as soon as they are available here in the United States..........

It's all about the supply and demand. Apparently these guys paid attention in economics class.
This craze is no different when the PS2 came out, Xbox and Xbox 360. I'd rather just play games on my PC than buy a console system.
If I were to buy one, i'd hold off since this is the first version of the PS3, there's going to be bugs.

I agree with the "economics" comment if they are gonna buy them today for $600 and sell them for a profit later. Otherwise, if someone is gonna pay the $600 like i saw on the news and keep them, then i dont get it. The one on EBAY sold for $4,050.00. Now this guy who ran that auction should be teaching economics. That is one heck of a profit. However, the person who uncontrollably paid that ridiculous price, well, its obvious that he could never sell it for a profit. The funny thing is that in a year, maybe less, these units will be valued at less than $300. And, as you said, this early version will have bugs. I think overall this will be a valuable lesson in economics for the sucka who paid $4,050.00 plus shipping costs......... ;D

I hope he at least got free shipping... for an 800% profit I'd throw in the shipping.

Funny you say that cause yesterday morning after you posted this i looked on there to see what the shipping charges were but unfortunately i couldnt find them on the page. I would guess $20 would be the standard price though..........

Screw sony, I'm waiting for the Nintendo Wii. Just don't try to go into the future like Cartman did, so he could play the Wii..... EB Games in the mall has one on display. They were just unpackaging it. Looks pretty cool. They also had the PS3 fired up, pretty sharp. I'll never buy one though.
