Former Maryland Terps Player and Assistant Returns to Indoor Football Club
BALTIMORE, MD (August 30, 2009) – Offensive Coordinator Mike Moyseenko, who guided the Baltimore Mariners to the league’s number one ranked rushing offense and an average of 48.8 points per game in the 2009 season, has agreed to return for his third season with the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) team.
Mariners’ Head Coach Chris Simpson expressed confidence in Moyseenko, “Mike has grown quite a bit as a coach over the last couple of seasons. He has a great grasp of our offense and is a tremendous play caller.”
Moyseenko, starred as a quarterback at South Hagerstown High School in Hagerstown, Maryland and led the Rebels to their first ever playoff berth in 2002. He then made the University of Maryland Terps squad as a walk-on quarterback. After two seasons as a player, he turned his attention to coaching and worked as an assistant to Maryland’s quarterback and wide receiver coaches. In 2007, he graduated with a degree in physiology and neurobiology.
In 2008 Moyseenko took his first professional coaching position, joining the Mariners as a wide receivers coach. Midway through the season he took over offensive coordinator duties and led the Mariners’ offense to a dramatic turnaround. After averaging 28.5 points per game and compiling a record of 2-8 in their first ten games, Baltimore finished the season 2-2 and averaged 44.75 points per game in their last four outings.
In 2009, the Mariners continued their offensive momentum averaging nearly 49 points per game (good for fifth best in the AIFA), finished 9-5, and earned their first playoff berth in franchise history. Moyseenko’s offense also led the league in rushing yardage, ranked second with 33 rushing touchdowns, and the unit’s excellent ball control helped lead Baltimore to a league best +26 turnover margin.
Coach Simpson believes Coach Moyseenko’s offensive talents will help lead the Mariners to success, “With him running the offense, I have great expectations for the team in 2010.”
