YIFL Championship season II

(9-10) The #1 seed and unbeaten South Coulumbus Raiders
were stunned in a 34-0 defeat to the Eastway Cherokees in the YIFL 9-10 yr old championship game today.The Cherokees lost the first game of the season to the Raiders 15-0 on May 2nd. Eastway defeated the Phenix City Titans the first round of the playoffs on the 28th 37-23. Congratulations to the Cherokees on their victory and continued success in the league.

(Actually I hope the Waverly Hall yellow Jackets rule the roost next year)

(11-12) The biggest shock of the day would be the North East Packers taking a 3-3 record into the play-offs and defeating the #2 seed South Columbus Raiders with a 1:15 left in the game by a score of 14-13. The packers barely made the play-offs by defeating Edgewood 14-6 on june 16th. North East had lost 3 games during the 6 game reular indoor youth football season to South Columbus Raiders, Eastway Cherokees and the Phenix City Titans. They defeated Eastway the first round of the play-offs on the 28th 18-14. Congratulations to one of the usual underdogs of the league. Great turnaround!


Congratulations and thanks to all the players/coaches involved in the second year of 'yifl' in Columbus. The league is getting more competative and exciting as it grows with the people in the bi-city area. I had no involvement but it is great to see youth football being played in indoor fashion. The kids adapt very well and it will further their development in many ways that people haven't always had access to.

Big shout out to Coach Gibson for fitting the indoor concept to
youth football and offering the kids of the bi-city this wonderful opportunity to play in the 'Lions DEN'. Great work coach

If your home town team doesn't offer this you should push them as hard as you can for it. Having the Kids involved means having the parents involved which means you have a community involved with your team. Other than that it is just a great idea that should be embraced across the AIFA and their member teams as well.

Thanks for the update Lionsroar. It is great to see the kids enjoying themselves and some of those kids are very talented. The Guard has a league too and they played during the half-time last week. There was a 25-yard pass reception for a T.D. that any AIFA team would have been proud of!

I think this will continue to grow as it has since its inception. But as with anything else, it takes a lot of work and personal time to organize and conduct and officiate the games. My hat is off to the Lions for the personal time and effort they give to the community.

I'm already a certified youth football coach through several programs and would like to go that route but i'll be waterboy or chain crew if it means the game will be played. I'd rather be rosponible for someones technique on the field though. There is nothing like that feeling you get when one has achieved a great goal you showed them how to get to. To see a kid figure the game out right before your eyes is a huge thing to me.
