ALBUQUERQUE ? The Utah Valley Thunder scored 28 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to rally to a 58-54 victory over the New Mexico Wildcats Monday night in AIFA football action. Thunder quarterback Mike Affleck connected with Jeff Johnson for a four-yard touchdown with six seconds left in the game to lift the Thunder (2-1) to their second consecutive victory over the Wildcats (1-2). Utah Valley trailed 54-30 heading into the final quarter before Thunder running back Sete Aulai scored on an eight-yard touchdown run early in the quarter to start the scoring spree. After recovering an onside kick, Affleck connected with Johnson on a 40-yard touchdown to continue the run. Trenton Himalaya later pulled the Thunder to within a touchdown with a three-yard touchdown run late in the quarter. The Thunder defense recorded its second consecutive stop in the quarter to set up Affleck?s game-winning toss to Johnson. Affleck completed 15-of-29 passes for 174 yards and four touchdowns, while Johnson finished with four catches for 68 yards and three scores. Akamu Aki recorded a team-high seven catches for a team-high 89 yards and one touchdown. ?It was great perseverance and not giving up,? Utah Valley Thunder coach Chad DeGrenier said.
