Columbus, GA (February 25, 2009) – The Columbus Lions of the American Indoor Football Association have signed former Georgia Force kicker Carlos Martinez (5’8 180, Buena Vista).
During his last two seasons (2007-08) with the AFL’s Force, Martinez combined to score 183 points. His 127 points in 2008 placed him fifth in the AFL in scoring. Carlos set club records with PAT’s made (112), attempts (127) in a season, and finished 5/9 on field goals in 2008.
The former Nebraska state wrestling champ and three-time Division III All-American also spent time with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys (2006-07), Atlanta Falcons (2006), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2004), and Philadelphia Eagles (2003). Carlos joins a Lions team that concluded the 2008 first in the AIFA in points scored by kickers with 146 total points which includes finishing the year tops in field goals made (21) and PAT’s made (83).

“I’ve known of Carlos since he was with the Desperados where he led the league in PAT percentage and scoring, so I have seen first hand what he is able to do on the field,” says Lions General Manager Jeff Gonos, “we’re excited to bring his combination of leg strength, accuracy, and kickoff versatility to the Lions in 2009.”
The Columbus Lions are set to kick off with their home opener on March 22nd, which means there is still plenty of time to get your season tickets for as low as $56. For ticket information contact the Lions front office at 706-322-3DEN or visit www.columbuslions.net for more details.
