Lions Sign Two Former AFL Lineman
January 12, 2009 (COLUMBUS)- The Columbus Lions of the American Indoor Football Association have signed two former AFL offensive lineman. Monreko Crittenden and Branden Hall have both signed with the club today.
Crittenden, 6-5, 385 pounds returns to the Lions after signing midseason with the Los Angeles Avengers in 2008. The Avengers are a member team of the now suspended Arena Football League. Monreko played college football for Auburn University where he was a three year starter and earned ALL-SEC honors his junior season. He entered the 2004 NFL Draft and was later signed by the Baltimore Ravens to an unrestricted free-agent contract.
Hall, 6-4, 330 pounds also joins the Lions after playing for the Los Angeles Avengers. He did not play and sat out the 2008 season with a knee injury. In 2007 Hall was one of only 3 rookies to start in all 18 games with the Avengers. In addition to providing excellent pass protection throughout the season, Hall caught an 11-yard touchdown pass at San Jose on April 21, 2007. He also made 2.5 tackles during his rookie campaign. Hall was on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad in 2004, the year they advanced all the way to Super Bowl XXXIX. Following the 2004 NFL Draft, he signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Lions, but was waived prior to the start of the regular season. A week later, however, Hall was signed by the Eagles. A four-year letterman at Troy (Ala.) University as an offensive guard, Hall was named to ESPN.com’s All-Independent team as a senior in 2003. Branden resides in Auburn, AL and attended Auburn High School where was a four year letterman in football, and ranked second in the state in the shot put.
