Many old Erie Invader fans may remember this guy. As well as AIFL and WIFL fans.
Gary Tufford joins as Executive Director
December 22, 2008 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Richmond, VA: The Indoor Football League (IFL) announced today the appointment of Gary Tufford as the Executive Director of the league. The IFL is the product of a merger between the Intense Football League (IFL) and the United Indoor Football League (UIFL) with 21 teams from coast to coast including Alaska.
Tufford comes to the league with over thirty years pro football experience. He was a pro player in the Canadian Football League before moving into coaching, management and eventually becoming a league executive with many leagues. His management experience in the indoor game spans the game's history including positions with the IFL, AF2, AIFL and the WIFL. Most recently he was the Commissioner and Executive Director of the World Indoor Football League (WIFL) and before that the Executive Director of the American Indoor Football League (AIFL).
"I am excited to be part of the building process of this league. Commissioner Benizio and I are long time friends and colleagues and having the opportunity to work together on this project will be rewarding" Tufford commented. "With a league this large there are certain challenges that must be met but I am confident that the groundwork and tools are in place to successfully establish an indoor football league structure that will stand the test of time". Tufford will assist in overseeing the day to day operations of the 21 team league with an emphasis on football operations and team related issues.
IFL Commissioner Tommy Benizio stated that, "The addition of Tufford strengthened the league's position in the indoor football community by bringing a wealth of knowledge and credibility to the league. Gary and I have always had a great relationship while working in opposite clubs and leagues. Now that we are working together on a common goal I am sure we will be that much more successful".
The IFL is committed to bringing affordable family entertainment to communities across the country and promoting the exciting sport of indoor football. The 2009 IFL season begins in March and will run through August.
