Lions Add Four More Players For 2009
December 16, 2008 (COLUMBUS, GA)-The Columbus Lions of the American Indoor Football Association will continue to operate in 2009 and are unaffected by the recent suspension of the Arena Football league.
In addition, the Lions are pleased to announce the signing of four players, WR Jarworski Pollock, DB Ramone Nickerson, WR Marcus Bryant, and DL Bo May.
Pollock 5-8, 175 pounds out of the University of North Carolina, was a 2003 Honorable-Mention All-ACC. He returns to Lions after spending last season in af2. In 2007, Jarworski led the Lions in receiving yards and touchdowns. He posted team best numbers in the 2007 WIFL Championship game where he had 9 catches for 116 yards and 4 touchdowns. Pollock holds the school record at UNC for receptions in a season 71 and career receptions 177. Among Pollock’s other accomplishments were catching at least one pass in 32 consecutive college games, returning 31 career punts for 269 yards, and posting a career-best 11 receptions for 134 at N.C. State in 2003.
Nickerson 5-10, 190 returns to the Lions for a 3rd year. In five games for the Lions, Nickerson recorded 10.5 tackles and 5 pass break-ups. “He is the fireplug and emotional leader on defense” said Gibson. “Ramone only played 5 games last year because he was pursuing his Master’s Degree. This year we will have him for the entire season which will definitely have an impact on our defense.”
Bryant 5-11, 195 pounds, joins the Lions after spending last season with the Huntington Heroes. The wide receiver from Stillman College was third on his team in scoring with 10 touchdowns through 11 games. He finished with 42 catches for 459 yards and contributed 1 passing touchdown on 2-5 passing. At Stillman, Bryant recorded 20 receptions for 541 yards and 8 touchdowns.
May 6-0, 280 pounds, joins the Lions after winning a Division II National Championship with the Valdosta State University Blazers in 2007. “Bo is quick off the ball and a true football player. Valdosta is a great program and we want to surround ourselves with proven winners.” Commented Gibson.
