Lions Sign Former Trojan December 1, 2008 (COLUMBUS, GA)- The Columbus Lions are proud to announce the signing of Troy University standout nose tackle, Franklin Lloyd. Lloyd, 6-0, 305 from Lanett, AL earned second team all conference accolades by the Sun Belt conference his senior year after posting 57 total tackles, 12.5 tackles for a loss of 37 yards, and 12 quarterback hurries.
After his senior season in 2006, Lloyd was taken 10th by the Alabama team in the now defunct All American Football League Draft. The information systems major continued to work out at Troy University where Lion’s Head Coach Jason Gibson met him during a recent visit with Troy University Head Coach Larry Blakeney.
“Troy University has a tradition of producing quality student athletes who can produce at the highest levels of football. We are fortunate to have a relationship with Coach Blakeney and his staff, to be able assist some of these athletes to continue to compete at a professional level,” Gibson stated.
Gibson looks for Lloyd to anchor a Lion’s defensive line that ranked first against the run and fourth in the league in sacks (30) in 2008. “Franklin should be a great addition to our defensive line and he fits within our mission of bringing in local players to Columbus to win a championship.” :smileylions:
