With new teams added, teams lost, and teams sitting out and/or joining in 2010 there is a new allignment. Here is the line up I have.(don't complain because some have 3 teams). Some new team/s may be added to the West.
EASTERN CONFERENCE
NORTH Canton Erie Reading EAST Baltimore DC Harrisburg WESTERN CONFERENCE
SOUTH Carolina Columbus Greenville Fayetteville Florence WEST Arizona New Mexico Ogden Utah Valley Wyoming
The playoff scenario as of right now. All division leaders at the end of regular season are in the playoffs. The next is where it gets a bit tricky, but fair. In the Western Conference, the second best team in the South and West division is the wild card team. The top team in the Eastern Conference is in. This being the divion leader(top team) in the North and East. The wildcard is the 2 teams with the next best overall record. This only applies to the North and East Division. So, there is a possibility that 2 wildcards could come from one division.
IE: Erie 14-0 wins North and Baltimore12-2 wins East. the next 3 teams records are Reading12-2, Canton 11-3,Harrisburg 10-4. Even tho Harrisburg finished second in their division. The wildcard teams would be Reading and Canton for their overall records.

I wonder if it would make more sense just to combine the North & East for this season since the other divisions have 5-6 teams in them...

To me it seems like a way to make sure the league owner get his Baltimore in the playoffs

What is Canton's status? They were on EBAY at one point. Did they find new investors, or did the owners just pony up?

What Happened to Mississippi? I thought they were one of the Stronger Markets last year.

What Happened to Mississippi? I thought they were one of the Stronger Markets last year. They had financial issues.

i stand corrected but the point is still correct just change the team names When I saw the divisions I thought the exact same thing. The east is weak IMO. It doesn't make sense to have two strong teams in the same division. It's unbalanced.

Geographically, doesnt make sense to me. We are further east than Harrisburg yet they are put in the East division with DC & Baltimore and Reading is in the North with Canton & Erie.
Current alignment NORTH Canton Erie Reading
EAST Baltimore DC Harrisburg
(Genes alignment) NORTH Canton Erie Harrisburg
EAST Baltimore DC Reading
Only logical thing i could think was that they wanted to keep Reading, Erie & Canton together for the rivalries. Its just confusing since Harrisburg is only an hour away yet they are in a different division than us. I was really hoping for Harrisbur to be in the North. maybe next year with new teams coming in they'll be switched over?

As it has been said by Don. You're trying to use logic with the scheduling?

Is New Mexico actually alive? Any confirmation on this team still being an AIFA member?

i'll try an answer a few of your questions -
a) Canton is fine and back for another year....Joe has busted his a** all year and i think Coach Hall will do a very nice job and good luck to Adam, good to see his name back in print
b) Mississippi is a much more complicated story, but lets just let it as finanical
c) New Mexico is in and also just fine. i met their coach at the last league meeting and i believe he is also splitting roles as their GM

For all practical purposes they did combine the North & the East. They all play each other at least twice, and the WCs will be from the conference (not division) The only difference being that the lesser division winner, may had not gotten a home game is the divisions had been merged.

At least with the somewhat balanced schedule we will play them twice. I know this is waaay to far in the future, and who knows where the current 6 teams will be let alone who else could be added other than Trenton, but I wonder how realignment will be when they are added.
