WVIE AM1370 to Broadcast All Baltimore Mariners Away Games
Baltimore Mariners(Baltimore, MD) With the 2009 Baltimore Mariners heading into their second season, the team goal is to continue to expand public awareness and build a strong and dedicated fan base. A positive step in accomplishing this task comes with the news of a broadcasting partnership with Baltimore sports station WVIE AM1370. A Fox Sports affiliate located in Pikesville, MD, WVIE boasts a powerful and robust 50,000 Watt broadcast signal that reaches as far south as Washington, DC.
WVIE is a committed partner in this venture. They understand the potential the Baltimore Mariners have as a viable and marketable professional sports franchise. It is this reason that the station has agreed to provide comprehensive play-by-play coverage of all Baltimore Mariners road games for the 2009 season. Aside from the broadcasting of road games, WVIE is also the new home of The Baltimore Mariners Community Sports Report; a weekly program that focuses on youth and community based athletics.
The Community Sports Report has been on-air for over two months and was previously heard on WNST AM1570 from 7am-9am. The move to WVIE AM1370 places the weekly program in the 9am-10am time slot every Saturday. While the program is shorter in length, the new time slot affords the Mariners a larger listener base with a farther-reaching signal. For those outside of the broadcast range, internet streaming is available through the station's website at www.v1370.com. The Baltimore Mariners Community sports Report is hosted by local broadcasters Marc and Andrew Unger from "The Fighting Ungers" radio program. "The Fighting Ungers" also host their own branded program on WVIE every Monday and Friday, 6pm-7pm. Their Monday and Friday program will frequently feature Baltimore Mariners related guests.
"This is an incredible opportunity for the Baltimore Mariners." said team communications director David Harrington, speaking on the road game broadcast agreement. "It is very important for fans to be able to follow their team on the road. This broadcast deal with WVIE adds stability to the existing fan base, and will certainly bring new fans on board." Harrington added.
Team owner Alan Taylor provided his thoughts as well, saying "It was a package deal. We worked with Marc and Andrew Unger of "The Fighting Ungers" over at WNST, and we all made the move to WVIE together. As for the road game broadcasts, it is just the icing on the cake. We are very happy with WVIE AM1370 and excited about the opportunity to broadcast our away games to our fans."
