Lions Ink Conrad For 2009 Season October 3, 2008 (Columbus, GA)- The Columbus Lions are proud to announce the signing of Quarterback Joey Conrad for the 2009 season. The 6’4, 245 pound signal caller from Glenville State was a first team All-AIFA selection following the 2008 season where he threw 41 touchdowns. Conrad was 181 of 319 for 2,204 yards while only relinquishing 6 interceptions. “We’re extremely excited to have Joey back for next season,” said Head Coach Jason Gibson, “he’s a proven winner who makes good decisions and doesn’t turn the ball over.” Since signing in Columbus, Conrad has posted a 21-7 record over 3 seasons and has led his teams to 3 consecutive playoff appearances.
Conrad underwent off-season knee surgery to repair damaged cartilage in his right knee. “I feel good. The surgery went well and my rehabilitation is ahead of schedule,” said Conrad. Coach Gibson is also excited about the potential of having Conrad at 100 percent, “Joey has been playing on a knee that has literally been bone on bone for the last two years. Now he will be able to plant and push of his knee much better than he was able to in the past which should translate into some big numbers in 09.”

Congrats. I believe he was hurt when we played down there this year. So, I never saw him in action.

This is huge for the Lions. Conrad is an excellent indoor QB. He doesn't necessarily make mind blowing plays, he just doesn't make mistakes.

I can't get clear confirmation from the Lions but what i'm hearing is that Conrad will NOT be back with the Lions for the '09 season due to an on going Knee problem. It appears that Chris Mccoy will enter the season as the favorite to start.
.........I don't really know how to feel about this other than I would expect him (Mccoy) to struggle early in the season due to lack of experience in the indoor game. Coach Gibson is a great teacher so I would expect to see great progression from him though as the season wears on.
.........Again, sorry, i wish i could have provided a link explaining this situation better but I can't get anything from the Lions front office so far! But I didn't think it would be right to the fans to sit on this news any longer! I wish Joey the best in his Future endeavor's! Thanks for the great memories in C-Town. The home of "Conrad's Corner"
