For Immediate Release:
BALTIMORE MARINERS ADD EXPERIENCE
TO 2009 ROSTER
Baltimore, MD…This off season has proven fruitful for the Baltimore Mariners as they add two more players to their 2009 roster. The added depth and experience will be key to the organization’s goals as they “Set Sail for the Ring in 2009”.
Receiver, Aaron Yarbough (5’ 10”, 185) returns for a second season with the Mariners. In 2008, Yarbough was limited to five games last season due to a hamstring injury but, was able to haul in 14 passes for 170 yards and four TD’s. “Aaron can stretch the field for us from the slot receiver position, stated Baltimore Head Coach Chris Simpson. He has a tremendous burst off the line of scrimmage and knows how to get open. He is an intelligent player and has the potential to be one of the top receivers in the AIFA next season.” Yarbough began his indoor career with the Richmond Speed of the AF2 in 2003. The following season, Aaron spent time with the AFL’s Philadelphia Soul and the following two seasons he was on the practice squads of the AFL’s Colorado Crush (2005) and the AFL’s San Jose Sabercats (2006). Yarbough played collegiately at the Virginia Military Institute.
In addition, the Mariners have signed Defensive Back Steve Agyeman, (6’ 1”, 205). Agyeman, who played his college ball at the University of Akron, brings four years of indoor experience to the Baltimore’s defensive backfield which includes seasons with the AF2’s Spokane Shock, Tulsa Talons and Lexington Horsemen. Steve also played for the Ohio Valley Greyhounds of the UIF. “We had a chance to look at Steve last season, added Coach Simpson. Before we could place him on the active roster he received a call from the Colorado Crush (AFL) and spent some time with them. Steve is a great cover guy and his experience and physical play will be an asset.” In 2007, Agyeman spent time with the Columbus Destroyers of the AFL.
“Coach Simpson, his staff and I have been working overtime to ensure we sign the best players available, commented Mariners GM Greg Justice. Our ability to sign quality athletes this early in the off season is a solid testament to what this organization is accomplishing from top to bottom.”
The Mariners will conduct their first open tryout on October 12 at Freestate Arena. For more information on the tryout, and other exciting news about the Baltimore Mariners, visit our website at www.baltimoremariners.com.
