BALTIMORE MARINERS RETURN FOUR FROM 2008 SQUAD
August 30, 2008. Baltimore, MD… The Baltimore Mariners announce four players returning from their 2008 team and continue the building process for the 2009 season.
Quarterback, Mike Orihel (6’ 4”, 215) will be back in a Baltimore Mariners uniform for the 2009 season. Orihel started 11 of the Mariners 14 games last season, completing 189 of 351 passes for 2145 yards and 41 touchdowns. “Mike has a year of indoor ball under his belt, Mariners head Coach Chris Simpson added. He has a better grasp of the quickness of the game and I fully expect him to compete for the starting job and have an outstanding 2009 season.” In 2007, Orihel spent some time with the Philadelphia Soul of the AFL. Mike played his college ball at Rowan University where he completed his career there as the Profs all-time leading passer.
Faraji Mason (6’ 5”, 320) will return for his third season in Baltimore, second with the Mariners. The offensive lineman is a seven year veteran of indoor football and earned two championships with the Ohio Valley Greyhounds of the NIFL. Faraji can also play defensive line and fullback. Mason played his college ball at IUP.
Anchoring the defense will be returning defensive lineman Henry Scott. Scott (6’ 4”, 305) played the last five games of the 2008 season for Mariners where he recorded eight tackles and three sacks. Scott played four seasons for the University of Maryland Terrapins and is a graduate of Kenwood High School in Baltimore.
Defensive back, Joe Taylor (6’ 1”, 205), from Morgan State will return to the Mariners. Taylor opened camp with the Mariners in 2008 but, a fractured ankle sidelined him for most of the season.
The Mariners will conduct their first open tryout on October 12 at Freestate Arena. For more information on the tryout, and other exciting news about the Baltimore Mariners, visit our website at www.baltimoremariners.com.
