(Baltimore, MD) As the Baltimore Mariners prepare to set sail into their 2009 season, one of the most important roles of ensuring a successful team is fielded to make a run for the championship, is the teams head coaching position. It is with great pride that the Mariners' General Manager Greg Justice announces the hiring of Chris Simpson to fill the role of Head Coach.
Coach Simpson and Greg Justice first met two years ago through mutual acquaintance, Reading Express offensive lineman Mark Stout. Last season, Greg Justice found himself on the Baltimore Mariners roster, under the leadership of Coach Simpson.

Chris Simpson begins his second season as Head Coach of Baltimore Mariners. The 2009 campaign will also mark Simpson’s fifth season as a head coach in the indoor game.
Coach Simpson began his coaching career in the High School ranks where he spent six seasons as a coordinator or head coach in Idaho and California. In 1992, Chris took a minor step up to the professional level when he assumed the General Manager/Offensive Coordinator responsibilities for the River City Gamblers, a pro minor league team based in Sacramento, CA.
After two seasons with the Gamblers, Simpson expanded his experience by taking volunteer coaching positions in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Sacramento Goldminers and in the Arena Football League (AFL) with the San Jose Saber Cats. Chris also assisted the Sabercats in regional scouting and tryout camps.
With a growing family, Coach Simpson left football for 6 years to work a “normal” job. However, never happy to be away from football, Simpson returned to coaching with the Tucson Thunder in 2002. After one season as Player/Head Coach of the Thunder, Simpson stepped into yet another level of football management.
Simpson added the title “owner” to his resume when he started the Tucson Monsoon. As Head Coach, General Manager and Owner of the Monsoon, Simpson led the Monsoon to the Second Round of the AzFL playoffs. The Monsoon was the first team in 13 years to make it to any level of the playoffs in their first year of existence. The Monsoon also garnered more team and individual awards in the AzFL than any other team.
Following his success with the Tucson Monsoon, Simpson accepted his first professional Head Coaching job with the San Angelo Stampede in 2004. Other Head Coaching positions that Simpson has held include the Lincoln Capitals and the Baltimore Blackbirds.
Simpson is a graduate of Orofino High School in Orofino, Idaho where he earned First Team All American, All State and All Conference Honors at Defensive Back. These accolades allowed him to further his football career where he played at University of Arizona for the next four years. After his collegiate career, Simpson signed as a free-agent Defensive Back for the Dallas Cowboys. Once his stint with the Cowboys was over, Simpson entered the realms of coaching.
Chris resides in Virginia Beach, VA with his wife Pam.
