CIFL offseason preparations begin
Monday, 28 July 2008
(Canton, OH) - The Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) finsihed up their third season on July 29th as the Saginaw (MI) Sting were crowned champions of the 2008 season. Following a few weeks to sit down and reflect on the season, the league and team owners have started the preparations for 2009.
The league would like to announce the addition of the first expansion team, the Wheeling (WV) Wildcats (www.wheelingwildcatsfootball.com ). The Wildcats are owned by Elmira Football Holdings, LLC and will play at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia. WesBanco Arena has a capacity of 5,500 for football and the Wildcats will kick off their inaugural season at home in March of 2009. In addition to the Wildcats, the league has received significant interest for further expansion, however no other details can be provided at this time. "We are evaluating the interest that we have to this point", said CIFL co-founder Jeff Spitaleri, "our goal is to strenghten our eastern division, but at the same time, we want to make sure all the current teams in the league are prepared for 2009."
The Chesapeake Tide will not return to the CIFL for the 2009 season, however, the league will remain in Upper Marlboro, Maryland with a new organization in place. The 2009 Maryland team will play their games at The Showplace Arena and details on team ownership, team name, colors and logo will be revealed in the coming weeks.
The owners meetings for the off-season are currently in planning and should be held in August and October in Canton, Ohio. Meeting information and all league updates will be provided following each meeting with the owners as the league moves deeper into the 2008 off-season. "It is important to have these meetings when the season is over, but it is also important to have them at a time when the previous season is still fresh in our minds, it allows us to discuss the important parts of the season and focus on the proper changes that need to be made", said CIFL co-founder Eric Spitaleri.
In addition to the owners meetings, the league is actively looking for staff members for the 2009 season. Jeff Spitaleri said, "sweeping changes are being made to the front office of the league for 2009, we want to maximize our resources and operate more efficiently in the league office. We feel that surrounding ourselves with the right people will allow us to do that." Current open positions are the Director of Officials, Director of Media Relations and Director of Corporate Sponsorship. In addition to the positions listed, the league is also interested in hiring local college interns looking to work in sports management and office managment. Interested parties should email a resume to the CIFL with the position and salary requirements you are interested in to info@continentalindoorfootball.comThis email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it .
As the off-season progresses, additional information will become available. Please contact the CIFL with any questions or comments you may have in regards to the league developments and the off-season.
