LIONS TAKE ON FIRST PLACE PHANTOMS Date: 6/4/2008 11:47:58 AM
Columbus, GA (June 4, 2008) – Coming off their second bye-week of the 2008 season , the Columbus Lions (8-3) of the American Indoor Football Association are set to take on the first place Florence Phantoms (7-4) of the Eastern Conference.
Riding a four game winning streak, including a 50-6 win against Fayetteville Guard last weekend. The Phantoms have already sealed a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference making this their first playoff birth in their three-year existence.
The Phantoms are led by Quarterback Omar Jacobs, the 2004 Davey O’Brien Award Finalist, who has thrown 49 touchdowns with only 10 interceptions leading the team to the second best yards per game (252.2) in the AIFA.
The Lions, who are coming off their bye-week are expecting a full squad to recover from injuries including Quarterback Joey Conrad (leg) and Wide Receiver Gerald Gales (knee) are set to go for this Friday night. With a win this weekend, the Lions can clinch a playoff birth in the Western Conference.
The Lions’ offense will have their hands full as the Phantoms’ defense as only allowed 32.5 points a game including a league best only allowing 130.9 yards through the air. The Columbus Lions’ defense will also be tested as Florence is ranked third in total offense with 252.2 yards per game.
