Lions, Stingrays Set For Rematch Date: 5/21/2008 12:46:00 PM
COLUMBUS, GA (May 21st, 2008) – Coming off their impressive win against Mississippi this past weekend, the Columbus Lions (7-3) of the American Indoor Football Association look to carry that momentum as they take on the Florida Stingrays (0-9) in Ft. Myers this Saturday night at 7:30 PM.
This game marks a rematch from earlier this season in which Columbus defeated the Stingrays 63-25 back in Week 8.
Florida is still searching for their first win after losing two consecutive games to the Florence Phantoms by a combined score of 48-121. The Stingrays have been outscored by opponents 195-553 through 9 games.
This game marks Sting Rays Head Coach Riley Ware’s third game after replacing former Head Coach B.J. Jernigan mid-way through the season. Before taking over for Jernigan, Ware was previously Florida’s defensive coordinator.
Last weekend, the Lions defeated Southern Division leading Mississippi 53-48 who was previously undefeated. Led by Starting Quarterback Joey Conrad’s 228 passing yards and 3 total touchdowns the Lions offense led the charge in beating the Mudcats in Tupelo where no one had beaten them in two years.
After leaving the game late in the 3rd quarter with a leg injury, Conrad is listed as day-to-day for this weekend’s game. Back-up Quarterback Maurice Mullins, who stepped in during the 4th quarter to hold the Lions win, will go against the Stingrays if Conrad is unable to play.
