I don't know how many people here are interested in the Raiders, but I am. So, here is my first post as a moderator of the Raiders section. I'm just wondering what everyone thought of the Raiders draft. If you don't recall who they drafted, here are the players: Darren McFadden - RB: Player PageTyvon Branch - CB: Player PageArman Shields - WR: Player PageTrevor Scott - DE: Player PageChazeray Schilens - WR: Player Page

Some experts didn't like the McFadden pick since the Raiders already had LaMont Jordan, Justin Fargas, Michael Bush, and Dominic Rhodes (Rhodes was cut following the draft). Also, the team struggled in rush defense last season so some thought they should have taken Glenn Dorsey. While the Raiders biggest need wasn't running back, they went with the best player on their board. And it's hard to not get excited at the prospect of JaMarcus Russell and McFadden maturing into 2 offensive stars.

I would have to agree, 1stDownRats. However, I have heard a bunch of reasons justifying the McFadden pick too.
It is pretty much universally believed (among Raider fans at least) that LaMont Jordan will be gone before the season begins. Warren Sapp recently said that LaMont is the worst off-season football player he has seen, so that doesn't help his case. So, I expect the main RBs to be McFadden/Fargas/Bush, which is still kind of crowded.
The Raiders did struggle in run defense, but that is why they paid Tommy Kelly $50-something million to get the job done. He plays the three technique, which is what Dorsey also plays. Drafting him would put way too much money on one position.
These "excuses" help me justify the McFadden pick. He wasn't the player I wanted most, but I am still happy that he is a Raider. Hopefully he can take some of the pressure of of JaMarcus.
