It may not be considered a major market, and i don't even consider it a major market, but Augusta is the 2nd biggest city in Georgia, only behind Atlanta.

Sorry one more thing.... As for advertising at the inner harbor it is a tourist trap. Most of people who visit the harbor and the ESPN zone are from out of town. You guys would never last a second in a major market. All the more reason to advertise in that area. Out of towners are looking for other things to do while they are visiting. Alienating them just because they dont live there isnt very smart. The Mariners are an attraction and should treat themselves as such. Walk up tickets can be just as vital as the seasons are. The Express have a couple thousand + season ticket holders but dont think for a second that they dont appreciate the 300-1000+ walkup ticket buyers. If ownership shares your logic i could see why your team is struggling in the attendance department....

Any sports fan on a vacation would probably love to see a new team play especially in a sport not available where they come from. I have been to hundreds of minor league baseball, hockey and football games while on vacations not to mention the occasional pro game. Its your inept intellect and lack of imagination thats going to make Baltimore one and done. Have a nice day. Psssssst. First down Rats, move the chains boy.

Ok... I'm not to proud... I'll agree with you about the harbor. BUT growing up and living near Baltimore and seeing how marketing works here, I think that Money allotted for marketing could be better spent else where. You are right we should not alienate no potential ticket buyers. The cost of advertising at the harbor is through the roof. There are also territorial issues there too. Don't get so flighty it was meant to be funny not a shot at anyone. As for the inept intellect and lack of imagination comment. I have nothing to do with the marketing of the team. I am However personally trying to organize with some of the die hard fans and the teams ownership a Fan Club. Our #1 Goal is to promote the team. We will overturn every stone and check down every avenue to help out anyway we can. Gene...These are my own personal thoughts not anyway shape or form the ownership of the Mariners. John Morris would advertise on the Moon if he thought it would get people in the seats. It is just tough here to promote any team in any sport. You guys may find this funny. WJZTV a local tv station who is the home of the Ravens once reported... "A good ole boy from a local bowling alley bowled a perfect game lets go there live". They did a couple minute interview with this guy and went back to the station and said "In other sport news the CFL's Baltimore Stallions will go to the Grey-cup next week after their win at the stadium today. Now back to you Bob" There was 30,000 fans at that game. I help take down the goal post on the Field after the game!!! And that was the only coverage we got. My inept intellect and lack of imagination could not even make that story up. As for the Running the chains... I love running the chains during the game. It is a blast!!! No!!! it is not my real job as some people ask. They are the best seats in the house. We are a group of Federal Govvy's who all work together and this opportunity was offered to us and we took the ball and ran with it. Now you Have good day Sir and (I always wanted to use that one)

I beg to differ, good sir.
We're in the Dallas market and we're doing pretty good. Media coverage is not great, but we've figured out to handle that by using our web site and our e-mail database as our newspaper, radio and TV outlet. We've also partnered with online communities to get the word out.
Our struggle was 7 home games in 7 weeks this season to accommodate arena renovations. The payoff will be an additional 3,000 seats, suites, locker facility and 24/7 turf during the season.
One of our mantras: The Cowboys are America's team, the Desperados are Dallas' team and the Thunder is your team in Frisco.
Unofficial matra: Our QB has won a playoff game and isn't dating Jessica Simpson.

Which brings me to my next question.....
Would Wes Cooper trade a playoff win for a date with Jessica Simpson?

The effort put forth by Frisco is what all teams need to do to be successful. You utilize your email to keep fans up to date. I don't see many teams having news & info to remind their fanbase about games. I guess what I should have said, is that a team will never work in a large market if the marketing isn't there. That point is valid and has been proven many times over with minor league sports in general. My intention was to not bash Baltimore, but to point out that it's not working in the said market. If it continues, it will be impossible for the team to survive. On a sidenote about Jessica Simpson... I'd hit it.
