Lions, Guard Set for Benning vs. Bragg I Date: 4/18/2008 2:45:42 PM
COLUMBUS, GA (April 18th, 2008) – In the first of two meetings this season, the Columbus Lions (3-2) of the American Indoor Football Association are set to host the Fayetteville Guard (0-3) in a battle of Fort Benning against Fort Bragg this Saturday April 19th at 7:30 pm at the Columbus Civic Center.
In alliance with the meeting, the Lions will be hosting ‘Military Appreciation Night.” The night will feature special promos for the military and all personnel can bring in their military ID and purchase a ticket for as low as $6.
The Lions come into the contest after derailing a Reading Express club that previously had beaten two undefeated clubs. After falling behind early, the Lions defense would withhold the Express offense without a score in the second half until 18 seconds were left.
Returning from injury, Lions Quarterback Joey Conrad would enjoy a smooth night in which the offense only had 1 turnover. “With our defense stepping up, Conrad was able to get back into the groove of the offense and have a comfortable night,” says Head Coach Jason Gibson. “I’m especially happy with our defense eliminating the big plays and creating some of their own.”
The Guard rides into Columbus on the heels of losing a last minute heartbreaker to Florence this past Sunday in which the club had a 31-7 lead at halftime. Panicked by the clubs 0-3 start, Fayetteville owner Richard King decided to part ways with Head Coach Reggie Pinkney and has hired former Wide Receiver Mitch Galloway as the Interim Head Coach for this week’s match up.
Fans can catch all the action on Lions TV using a simultaneous broadcast with host Mike V and special sideline reporter Rachel Baribeau on LIVE 365 for a one-time fee of $5.95.
