LIONS DERAIL EXPRESS 50-25 Date: 4/12/2008 11:26:01 PM COLUMBUS, GA (April 12, 2008) – The Columbus Lions (3-2) of the American Indoor Football Association defeated the Reading Express (3-2) 50-25. After following behind early 9-0, Conrad would lead the Lions comeback with 190 passing yards, completing 16 of 30 passes and 4 touchdowns. Wide Receiver Anthony Merritt was Conrad’s favorite target of the night as he collected 7 catches for 88 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Lion’s defense held strong as they withheld the Express offense without a score until 18 seconds left in the game. Led by Linebacker Justin Rivers 5 tackles and 1 interception, the Lions caused 4 turnovers including two that were returned for touchdowns. Newcomer David Thomas had a huge welcoming party as he contributed 4.5 tackles, a forced fumble recovery, and 1 interception in his Lions debut. Reading could not contain the Lions frontline pressure, as Express QB Rob Flowers was sacked 3 times. “The defense really improved from their poor performance in Carolina, we still have some tinkering to do with our special teams but all in all our team stepped huge in a win over a great team,” says Head Coach Jason Gibson. Next week the Lions will be presenting ‘Military Night’ as they take on the Fayetteville Guard on April 19th at 7:30 at the Columbus Civic Center. Be sure to listen to all the details on WSHE AM 1270 for this and next weeks match-up on the upcoming Coaches Show this Tuesday at the Sports Page.

Good job Joey Conrad. I wish you could have done as well with us. If given the chance I bet you would have though. If we werent so intent on sticking with Skinner, you would have led us pretty far IMO.
