Conrad's rally falls short as Lions lose to Speed CONCORD, N.C. --Joey Conrad rallied the Columbus Lions Saturday night, but the Carolina Speed hung on for a 59-44 victory. Conrad, who had missed time with an injury, replaced Maurice Mullins . Conrad hit Gerald Gates with a 40-yard touchdown pass with four minutes left in the game to pull the Lions to within striking distance. But the Speed drove for a field goal to put the game away. The Lions were hurt by four turnovers in the second half. Stats were not available. According to a Lions official, the Speed did not keep stats in the game. Stats were not available. According to a Lions official, the Speed did not keep stats in the game. Well, the stats are up on the league website, so someone had to have taken them.
