READING, Pa. -- Quarterback Rob Flowers threw two touchdown passes and ran for two to fuel a second-half charge and power the Reading Express past the Huntington Heroes, 57-38, in American Indoor Football Association action Saturday night at Sovereign Center.
This is the second straight week Reading came back in the second half to hand the opponent its first loss. The Express (3-1) caught Erie on Monday.
Huntington (3-1) had a tough second half for the second straight week. The Heroes held on last Saturday to win at Carolina, but Reading outscored the visitors, 41-10, after intermission on Saturday night.
Reading got extra enjoyment out of the win since Heroes coach Teddy Keaton was head coach of the Lakeland Thunderbolts in 2007. The Thunderbolts beat Reading in the AIFA championship game.
Flowers had TD runs of 35 and 2 yards in the second half and hooked up with Shawn Foxworth on scoring tosses of 6 and 39 yards. Heroes quarterback Darnell Kennedy threw three interceptions in the second half. Michael Baldwin returned one 49 yards for a TD to give the Express a 50-31 lead.
Huntington's next game is this Friday at home against Erie. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Big Sandy Superstore Arena.
