MondayArena Football: Tallahassee Titans at Carolina Speed --
The Speed has its home opener after popping the lid on the 2007 season with a 61-57 victory on the road last week at Huntington, W.Va. Quarterback Barry Marrow led Carolina with 152 yards and six touchdowns on 10-of-21 passing.
"It was a pretty tight game the whole way," said Speed co-owner/assistant coach John Morris. "We came out and shut them down in the second half. We do some pretty intense conditioning, and in the fourth quarter it really propelled us."
Speed head coach/co-owner Michael Mink said Tallahassee should be one of the better teams in the Southern Division of the American Indoor Football Association. The Titans, he said, generally have large pools of talent from which to select players. Mink reported that more than 300 players tried out for Tallahassee, which draws players from such college programs as Florida State, Georgia Tech and Alabama.
Tallahassee is coached by Bobby Jackson, who led the Canton Legends to a championship last year in the American Indoor Football League, one of the leagues the first-year AIFA pulled its teams from.
