From the Reading Eagle news staff
The Reading Express offense struggled Saturday night in a 49-17 loss to the Carolina Speed in Concord, N.C.
With John Port at quarterback, the Express (1-1) was unable to move the ball consistently against the Speed (1-1). Port, an Albright product, was replaced at quarterback in the second half by Rob Flowers, a Muhlenberg High grad and Kutztown University product.
The Express returns home to the Sovereign Center Saturday at 1 p.m. to face the Arizona Adrenaline.

As for the rest, i'll have to bite my tongue.

Oops, I didn't realize the error. I just modified the story. Not your fault Ron. Did you notice Brian Rippey coming into the chatroom last nite to get the final score? He was in and out in a flash.

Hey everyone, I was at the Speed - Express game Saturday and it was not pretty. I would guess that the Express lost many of it's players from the Championship game team from last year. If so, would you guys agree that so far it looks like Huntington will be hard to beat with the way they are stacked up with Thunderbolts and Guard players and coaches??

I think we have 2-3 returning players from last years offense. IMO, our biggest problem is at QB. Till that gets fixed we'll see much of the same. As far as the Heroes i am not concerned at all with what they are expected too or may accomplish. More concerned with my team.

I didn't know the final score until I got home and went on the Reading Eagles website.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was at this game and could not beleive that they pulled Port. Port could only do so much! The receivers had a hard time catching the ball. All of the interceptions were first touched by an Express receiver. You guessed right, then intercepted off the tip. One interception was tipped by a defensive lineman. Flowers came into the game and the same problem continued. The receivers continued to drop balls. I've seen Port play at Albright. I've seen Flowers play at Kutztown. Both are talented athletes. Don't believe everything the media writes. Neither quarterback will play the blame game. It is football and these things will happen. The problems will be rectified and you will not believe the offense you will see. Port is a leader and he will continue to keep the team together. There is no I in TEAM. Wait and see!

Unfortunately, in this indoor type of passing game the QB is gonna be the focus of these problems. I dont blame it all on John. I did see the new balls and they barely have any grain on them & are very slippery. So i could see how the ball could slip out of the receivers hands. On the other side, John has to get used to the speed of this game vs the 100 yard game. No time to go back and scramble around or hesitate in throwing. I noticed these problem in the Baltimore game and in that game alone we almost exceeded our sack and int totals in a whole season. John has the tools to be a good QB on this team and in this league. Hopefully with this upcoming game against Arizona he can get some much needed practice to correct some of these issues, as well as can our receivers.
I also hope you dont think we are bashing anyone either. We EXPRESSFANS have been very spoiled over the past 2 seasons with winning teams. Losing is not an option nor are int's or sacks, lol. Anything we post here is for us to discuss and try to figure out what the problems are. Any QB we have going forward has some big steps to fill behind Tom Stetzer. It would be tough for anyone. We're all behind John and want him to succeed. Heres hoping theres a marked improvement in everyones game starting this Saturday...
