Express Defensive Coaching Staff Hires 38 Years of Experience
Reading Express GM/Head Coach Bernie Nowotarski announced today that not only have we been searching for quality players on the field, but we have been looking for the same quality in our coaches. I am proud to announce today our new Defensive Coordinator and new Defensive Line Coach.
Taking over the Express Defense is Preston McKnight. Preston brings 23 years of coaching experience to The Express. His career started at Reading Central Catholic where he coached for 5 seasons. Preston then moved on to be the Defensive Coordinator of Governor Mifflin for 10 seasons. Preston than became the Head Coach at Schuylkill Valley where he took a struggling program and turned into a 4 season success story. Preston has been spending his last few years helping out Kutztown University. “This is exactly the type of coach I was looking for” said Nowotarski. “He is a local guy a family guy and has all the experience and football knowledge that I could ask for.” added Nowotarski.
Preston is married to Mary Ellen and they have two sons, 12 year old Colin and 8 year old Nathan. Both Preston and Mary Ellen work in the Governor Mifflin School District, Preston as the Associate Vice principle and his wife as a teacher.
Keeping the Defensive Coaching in the family, we also agreed to terms with our new Defensive Line Coach Sean McKnight, yes he is Preston’s younger brother. Sean brings 15 years of coaching experience to The Express. Sean was with his brother at Schuylkill Valley and spent 11 seasons at Penn Manor.
Sean played his High School football right here in Berks County at Reading Central Catholic, where he was named Defensive Linemen of the Year. He started his college career at Edinboro; he then transferred to Millersville where he finished his playing days. “Again, Sean brings a tremendous amount of football experience and knowledge along with the ability to teach technique” said Nowotarski. “Sean also fits right into what I look for; He is a local guy with strong family beliefs. Sean and his wife, Christine along with their children, Nicholas 11 and 8 year old daughter Delaney are a great addition to our Express and Berks Fire Water Restorations family.”
