Reading Express GM/Head Coach Bernie Nowotarski today signed former Reading Central Catholic and Duquesne University standout Yardon Brantley. Yardon is a 6”1” 200 lb wide receiver who can also play defensive back if called on. Brantley’s football experience after Duquesne landed him in The Philadelphia Eagles camp in 2004. He then went to and played for The San Jose Sabercats of the AFL during the 2004/05 season. In 2006, Brantley was with the Wilkes-Barre Pioneers of AFL 2 and the Philadelphia Soul of the AFL. Nowotarski said, “I’ve known of Yardon since his high school career at Central. I would help out Head Coach Greg Saylor whenever I could, but Saylor said watch this kid; he’s going to go places.” Nowotarski added, “In the past few months I made contact with Yardon and we talked about playing here in Reading. Last month, while I was in Miami for our league meetings I called Yardon, who was living in Florida at the time. He informed me he was coming back to Reading in a few weeks and he was interested in The Express. This morning, Yardon came into our office and signed his contract. I am thrilled to have him signed. One, Yardon is an outstanding young man. Two, he is a great addition of talent to our team and three, I love seeing our local kids getting a chance to play in front of their home crowd of family and friends.” “I am going to continue to look for the best talent out there,” said Nowotarski. “I want to put our organization in the best possible position to be a winner on and off the field.”

If there is one thing that Berks County can produce, that is talent. Just look what we have done in the past with our local guys.
Welcome to the home to the Rail Yard Yardon. We look forward to cheering you on.

With all the wide receiver signings makes me wonder what is going to happen with Melo, Cooper and Manyorine. I know Manyorine( Sorry if spelled wrong) said he was ify about coming back but I thought that was just because that was right after the championship game.

Every player on every team is ify about coming back for the next season. They all want to go to the next level. If he doesn't make it to the next level in tryouts then he will probably come back next year. All players go through this.

MAN! You guys don't screw around on the off season, do you? How about leaving some players for the rest of the league?

A team can't be successful if they wait until the last minute to do everything. I just wish that other teams were as open with their fans as the Express are.
I am more anxious in this off season then I was last year because Bernie is keeping everyone in the loop with all of the transactions.

That's because Bernie ( I think more than the others) realizes that without the fans there is no Express. The more the fans get excited about the year to come the more word of mouth advertisement. Whick means more sales and hopefully more season ticket holders. Great job as I said before Bernie. Can't wait for the first game.
