5/22/2007 Express wins From our news staff
Berks County, PA - The Reading Express bounced back from just its second loss of the season to defeat the improved Baltimore Blackbirds 58-32 Monday night at 1st Mariner Arena in an American Indoor Football Association game.
Playing its second game in three days, the Express (13-2) trailed 19-13 early in the second quarter and led just 28-25 at halftime after defeating the Blackbirds (1-9) 78-6 on March 10 in Reading.
Tom Stetzer threw five touchdown passes and the Express defense limited Baltimore to a touchdown in the final minute of the second half to break the game open.
Leading by just three to start the second half, Isaiah Grier scored on a 1-yard run and Erik Rockhold followed with one his three rouges to give Reading a 36-25 lead.
Joe Macaluso recovered a fumble on Baltimore’s next possession and Stetzer hit Carmelo Ocasio with a 12-yard touchdown pass on the next play to break it open.
Stetzer also threw two touchdown passes to Ian Cooper and one each to Jesse Dorias and Maurice Humphrey. The TD catch was the first for Humphrey, a former Penn State player.
The victory helped Reading, which has clinched its second straight regular season Northern Conference title, bounce back from Saturday’s loss to Huntington that snapped a 10-game winning streak. Reading closes the regular season at home Saturday, June 2, against Danville.

The Blackbirds held it together for a solid first half. In typical fashion though, they came out of the second half sluggins and darn near non-present. I think the confusion came from my pre-game habit of spiking the opponents water cooler as i sit right behind the visitor bench. As it turns out, Reading occupied the area behind the endzone for the game and the blackbirds split the benches in the boxes. They unfortunately fell victim to my Tylenol PM and vodka concoction. Those Express guys are smarter than i gave them credit for.
