With minimal activity at the office. And no word yet of the up and coming season. And basically being the face of the Freeze. Several potential sponsors have been inquiring about next season. I have no clue what to tell these people. So, we have been taking names and numbers down. I know Scott gets pestered by a potential sponsor weekly. Hopefully soon we will know what is going on.

Yea Joe, I have a gentleman who's regularly comes into my place of work asking me about the Freeze and their plans for next season. He has shown an extremely strong interest in doing Promotion AND Sponsor work with the team. He owns a business in the area, and has some great ideas to do things with what his business involves and the Freeze. This would be a great opportunity for both him and the Freeze since our season starts in early spring and into the summer months and his business relies on the spring and summer months. The word he could get out about his business early in the year would benefit him greatly and he knows an opportunity when he sees it. I have his infromation as well as his business and cel phone #s. He comes into my work AT LEAST once a week, usually more. He asks me if I talked to the Freeze and if I've forwarded his information to them. I keep telling him that I'm supposed to be meeting with them soon, as they have told us in our few brushes with them, that they want to meet with the Fan Club Board soon.
But when?
That's the big question now. Teams are already signing players and sponsors are looking for places to spend their advertising $$$! There are only a few months left in the year and potential sponsors are looking to finish up their budgets for 2007 and get their tax breaks done for their business expenses for the year. Then, they are already looking for places to spend their $$$ and look for their advertising opportunities for 2008. Some businesses only have so many $$$ in their advertising budgets and they need to know where they can spend them. If there is the perception that the team is not going to be around or if the sponsors are not being contacted about advertising for next season, the advertising $$$ they have to spend will go elsewhere.
They will say "I haven't heard from the Freeze, but the Otters called." "Maybe I'll buy an ad from them."
And what do you think that the SeaWolves are doing right now? Their season ended a week and a half ago. But you know that their out there getting sponsors lined up for 2008. And they won their Division this year and went to the playoffs. People in Erie like to be affiliated with a winner, so the SeaWolves have a opportunity to obtain a big piece of the "sponsorship pie". You also have Lake Erie Speedway. Interestingly enough, do you have any idea who's the salesman for L.E.S.?.........
Time's up!
It happens to be Pat who did the sales for the Freeze in 2007. He's out there making sales calls and where do you think that he's putting those sales calls towards.....LES!
He was making sales calls for LES at the FREEZES' OFFICE in the final weeks of the season!!!!!
If the Freeze don't get out there SOON and let Erie know that they will be back in 2008 the only thing that will be on the walls at the Tullio will be plain black padding!!!!
Oh and that guy I know that wants to sponsor the Freeze, He'll be doing that somewhere else too....................

Yep. If someone asks, tell him to go with the organization that has shown signs of life. The Freeze need to pick it up quick or they're going to lose thousands upon thousands of dollars of sponsor money. If they haven't already (which by these comments I think they have).

Gentlemen, it's clear that no matter how hard we try, our concerns more than likely fall on deaf ears. The writing is on the wall. It was a great run, it's too bad it had to end this way.

Yep, the fans of Erie deserve better. As do the fans in a lot of cities in numerous leagues. We're not going to get it, folks.

I'm surprised part of any comprehensive league plan to help teams manage themselves doesn't include the obvious "stay open for twelve months out of the year," with the additive of "any team that doesn't will be assumed folded and the league will move on without."

Why complain? All you do is it make the team/league look bad. :rolls eyes: I think this is more of a ownership issue than it is a league issue. If a owner can't run their team the way it needs to be it doesn't reflect on the league in an way shape or form.

Team issues always reflect on the league, whether positively or negatively. Any problems Erie has will reflect on the league, whether justified or not. That's why the league needs to be proactive helping teams. Not because they "deserve" it, per se, but because any problems any teams have fall right at the fault of the league. Same with the QB/coach argument in football.

I don't think the league needs to be a bank roll for teams that can't make things happen, but hopefully the TV deal will cut out all of that.

I didn't say they needed to bankroll teams. If the league has to resort to that, they need to take over the team and remove ownership.
All I am saying is that the league needs to help teams proactively - before there's a problem - because any time there is a problem, it's the league's fault. Doesn't matter if they had a darn bit to do with it. It is always the league's fault. That's just how it is. Any time McCarthy in Rochester made a fool out of himself in the press, that was my fault for the league looking foolish. That's how it works, regardless of the fact that I had absolutely no control over anything that guy said or did.
With acting proactively, the league can help make sure problems don't occur. Won't solve them all, but it reduces their fault for things they really don't have that much control over in the first place.
