Adding to the signing of 2007 AIFA All Star Junior Louissant, the Heroes have signed three more All Stars off the 2007 AIFA Champion Lakeland Thunderbolts.
Jermaine Blakely (6’4” 315) is a product of Stillman College and is a jack of all trades. He played both offensive and defensive line in 2007 before moving to fullback midway through the season. Blakely stepped in to play fullback for the Thunderbolts after Marvin Brown moved up to the Tampa Bay Storm and was solid all season. “He was a vital part of our Championship and I am thrilled to have him with us in Huntington,” Coach Kenny Johnson commented.
The Heroes also signed Defensive Back Larry Thompson (6’1” 195) from San Jose State. Larry “LT” Thompson led the Thunderbolts and the AIFA in interceptions in 2007 with 33. Along with making the 2007 AIFA All Star team, Larry is also a two time Intense Football League MVP with the Odessa Roughnecks. Head Coach Teddy Keaton, “Larry is not only a great athlete, he is like having a coach on and off the field.
Thompson and Blakely have now won back to back championship with the 2006 Odessa Roughnecks and the 2007 Lakeland Thunderbolts.
Thompson’s partner in crime in the secondary in 2008 is Otheese Wells (6’0” 195) out of Stillman College. In 2007, Wells recorded 9 interceptions with the Thunderbolts and he led the 2006 Thunderbolts in tackles, as well as recorded 17 interceptions.
The Heroes staff is thrilled to have these outstanding football players join the team in 2008. “You can’t coach experience and that is what these three have loads of”, Coach Keaton commented. “They have all played in Championship and they know how to win. That feeds down to our younger players. We are blessed to have these 3 with us in 2008.”
