Heroes Look to Even Up Record This Weekend
Coming off of the bye week the Heroes are looking to even up it's 2007 record when they visit the Florence Phantoms this Saturday. During the off week the Heroes took time to heal some injuries and reassess what needs to be done to make a run at the AIFA playoffs.
In the loss to Canton the Heroes secondary took a blow, with two of three DB's going out to injury, so the bye week couldn't have come at a better time. "We used the bye week to heal up and watch alot of tape." Said head coach Garry McPeek. Coach McPeek and the Heroes didn't use the week off to dwell on the loss to Canton but used it as a building tool for the rest of the season. "I feel that you can learn alot from a game like the Canton game. We are still missing superb play in a couple of positions from competing for a championship. We have the next two weeks to work out the kinks and then the remainder of the games are Northern Conference games that are must wins to make the playoffs."
This week the Heroes face a Southern Conference foe in the Florence Phantoms. The Phantoms are sitting at 1-1. With only two games under their belts the Phantoms are hard team to figure out. They got an impressive win over Carolina 64-36, but then lost to Lakeland 69-25. Either way coach McPeek views this week as a tall task, "Florence has some great division I athletes. It is always tough to win on the road."
The Heroes lead the all-time series 1-0 beating the Phantoms at Veterans Memorial Field House last season 60-36, a win that got the Heroes into the playoffs in 2006. The Phantoms though are a totally different team from top to bottom with new ownership, new coaches and new players. Coach McPeek's expectations for his team this week is no different from any other week, " to compete and play hard for 60 minutes and most of all have fun." The keys to victory this week are pretty simple as well, "We have to take care of the football on offense and get pressure on their quarterback."
You can watch this weekends game live online at AIFATV.com You can also chat with other Heroes fans as the game goes on at HeroesFans.com. The Heroes will be off again next week and have an exhibition charity game scheduled with the Carolina Speed on March 17 in Concord, NC. The Heroes return home March 24 when they host Johnstown Riverhawks.
