It also violates the First Amendment of the Constitution for the government to abridge the right of the people peaceably to assemble. The greatness of this country comes in its ability to allow the dissenting view, no matter how unspeakably horrific it is.

True, I'm not saying that we shouldn't have rights but naturally I don't really like the fact that the Klan is coming to Tupelo. :smileymudcats: :smileymudcats: :smileymudcats:

I wouldn't like it if they came to Wooster, either. As inane as they are, and as their arguments are, it is their right to assemble peaceably. If I weren't so white, I'd certainly go to the rally just to see how nuts it is, though.
But I am, so I don't feel like risking my life today, thank you.

If you think there's no Klan in Mississippi, you're very naive. www.topix.com/forum/city/saucier-ms/TE8PVDKJSC02F6M7MI'm not condoning it, but this is the United States, and they have the freedom to express their beliefs just like you or I do. Frankly, you starting this topic just brings them more awareness... if you don't like it, ignore it.

I keep remembering the rally they had in Toledo a few years back...I think it was on our first wedding anniversary. Wouldn't have made the news if those rallying against the rally hadn't rioted and pillaged half of Toledo.

I understand your frustration and I too disapprove of the Klan or any group like it. But please, lets keep this site a FOOTBALL site and not get into politics. Its bad enough that ESPN and other leading sports pages get political. Lets have one sanctuary for indoor football and nothing else.

I think holding a hate rally should be considered the same as shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theater.

Yes, I realize this is a football site but I posted this in the "Open Discussion Page". Which I assume Open Discussion means you can talk about whatever. I hate talking about politics. For instance, I hate it when I'm watching SportsCenter and they have to talk about another player on drugs, another player on steroids, or another player on his or her way to jail. I just wanted to see what ya'll had to say.

"I disapprove of what you say, but I defend to the death your right to say it."
Yeah, the Klan sucks. But there's no law that states you can't hate people.
Otherwise you wouldn't be able to hate the Klan.

Wouldn't have made the news if those rallying against the rally hadn't rioted and pillaged half of Toledo. I remember the coverage of this on CNN. They were marching through the residential neighborhoods there. It was something to see. We've had them hold small scale protests on our courthouse steps here in the past. I hope that their intentions are peaceful and violence free in Tupelo.
