Very bad news for the CIFL: www.thetimesherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070526/NEWS05/70526010Their flagship franchise, the Port Huron Pirates, will leave at season's end. They could be moving to Binghamton, Flint (heard from several Pirates fans), or another Michigan city. One question: Why did they have to announce this at halftime? Now nobody's coming for the rest of the season! (Anybody see any similarities to Art Modell's moving the old Cleveland Browns to Baltimore a decade ago?)

You could get away with saying this in the NFL (i.e. Browns), but saying,
"We're gone, We’re going to take the team to a place where they are appreciated as much as we appreciate them"
If you want to totally have a fanbase turn on you, this is what you tell the media....

He told the fans at halftime! Talk about a lack of tact!
And just for correctness (as with on the other boards), Lehigh Valley is the CIFL's flagship.

Does this mean once the team moves, like Cleveland... they will win a championship? Muahahaha! I love Art Modell! God Bless him!

The "announcement" was just the owner talking to the press during the game. It wasn't an announcement made over the public address system to the whole arena. That being said, it was an idiotic remark and I'm sure they regret letting the low attendance numbers frustrate them to the point where they let this out during the season.
We've known about their intentions for awhile, but it wasn't supposed to be released during the season, obviously. I'm sure the announcement will no doubt cause their attendance to get even worse for their last home game and any playoff games held in Port Huron.
No, they are not going to another league. They realize that their travel costs would double or triple in another league that doesn't have any other teams in Michigan and only one in Ohio.

Translation: The ownership F'd up and they are not moving to the AIFA. Thank you for playing, we have some lovely parting gifts for you.
